Change Over Time.
In the past many people in Ancient Greece and Rome wore many unsewn pieces of fabric like wool or linen cloth. Normally because the fabric was expensive and they didn't want to cut it they used ornamental pins too keep places like the shoulders secured. They also normally wore belts or sashes around their waist to keep their clothing, normally called peplos, chamlys, or chitons, tight on their torso. In ancient Rome they wore what was called a toga that was just a piece of fabric that they wore a tunic underneath. Later on women started wearing wool dresses and skirts held tightly with brooches and leather belts. At one point everyone actually wore linen hats! Eventually women started wearing knee high skirts and men started wearing shorts and sleeveless vests. That leads us to where we are now where fashion trends switch so many times it would be almost impossible to try and tell you all of the them.
